Good for you. Don't forget you need a Nikon P900/P1000 telephoto camera to do this. Human vision collapses to a point at roughly 3 - 6 miles depending on how clear the atmosplane is that day. So best case scenario, which is almost never the case, is 6 miles. You have to have the telephoto lens to perform the test.
