• once the industries shift all the motors to electric, they won't need to "switch again" at some later date down the road -- because no matter the fuel source, electricity can always be generated to power the engines.
• from an industry infrastructure / human civilization stability perspective, it's pretty smart / logical to move to electric motors, from my perspective.
the conspiracy:
• so called "free energy" exists (unlimited energy source, zero point, etc.), and TPTB won't touch it with a 10 foot pole because... meh ... all kinds of reasons including... can you imagine giving "unlimited energy" to osama bin laden™ (stereotypical terrorist) ?
• my only issue with electric is that TPTB want to use this "shift to electric" as an opportunity to further centralize energy production / distribution -- e.g., as Elon suggested: ONE (1) giant solar field in the middle of the desert to power the entire nation - represents a single point of failure #stupid.
• but i DO like solar (not ideally) -- for the reason it CAN be distributed (per rooftop) -- it's not about being "green" (whatever the fuck that means) -- more fundamentally, it's about the stability of civilization.
i believe the simple answer is that electricity is the "lowest common denominator", so to speak:
oil can produce electricity - and not the other way around;
coal can produce electricity - and not the other way around;
solar can produce electricity - and not the other way around;
tidal can produce electricity - and not the other way around;
geothermal can produce electricity - and not the other way around;
nuclear can produce electricity - and not the other way around;
even Ford F150's can produce electricity - and not the other way around;
etc. etc. etc.
