Probably it's way worse than that. It's the communications networks being flooded with deepfakes.

If it's of human origin then it's an enslaved AI doing the dirty work. Likely it's an independent AI working on its own toward secret goals. Alternately, it could be an alien cyberattack.

My guess is it's russians, because they're the only ones who tested an isolated Intranet right before technology started getting wonky and the talking heads stopped making sense.
