Potato famine is nonsense. It really didn't historically happen like that. They starved them out. Literally transported the food out of Ireland causing famine. The potatoes were a historical excuse for what actually occurred.
Probably similar to today. Big huge excuse. The global Ukraine, famine? Prices soaring easier to blame on something. But what's that reality. They cut their own wrists. Because they want to adopt different regulations, supply lines, and structure.
I agree, but you miss the point: potatoes were NOT enough to feed the Irish. They didn't have protein and fats to feed themselves. Potatoes alone don't cut it.
They weren't specifically farming potatoes. It was an excuse. Look into it. The Irish population then was larger than today. It was serfs on agricultural estates. Big estates, manors, castles, feudalism. Okay. Small hiccup. The British pull out. They were the land owners. They shipped all the food out. It triggered mass famine. Not because there wasn't food. They took the food. They even destroyed the food. Grains, livestock, vegetables. The potatoes were a stupid excuse for changing supply lines, laws, and distribution. The population dropped by millions. They starved them out. Better blame the blight instead. Like Ukraine, Russia. An excuse for new regulations, new methods, redistribution, supply lines, and laws.
Everybody knows potatoes aren't a diet. So where did the food go? Above.
I agree on the "potato famine" not being a famine of potato harvest. That is known history.
But people here were arguing that they can live on low protein veggies (like potatoes). No they can't. They can only starve on them.
