Well, if only population size of a country meant anything, and by what metric, China, should it?
G7 is the group of major, highly developed industrial nations, which, although I love Brazil, it's not. It's almost 3rd world. China, for all it's (untrustworthy) economic statistics, is still not a developed county akin to say, England.
Interesting though.
Have you ever been to China? (Honest question).
I was there in 2018 and I was blown away; people think it's 3rd world, and in some ways it still is (mostly because things like water and sewer have not kept up with the insane level of progress in other areas), but I would consider China to be no less "developed" than other first world countries from a technology stand-point.
Where I live at least, everything (and I mean everything) is made there. Here we couldn't make a toy gun to save ourselves. And we are developed?
Have I been to China? No. Spoken to people who have, and they say outside the major cities, it's still like peasant villages. China is a study in contrasts.
As for why they make cheap widgets in China as opposed to here, it's because it's cheaper. Cheaper labor. Low amounts of regulations, both environmental and safety. Cheaper bribes to government officials. List goes on.
Are we developed? Depends. Are we talking East St. Louis, Appalachia here or Silicon Valley I suppose.
