People are getting too excited about embracing pure terrain theory over germ theory.
Germ theory still explains a lot, and does so better than terrain theory can from all I've seen so far. Terrain theory proponents always want to debate whether viruses exist, but never the merits of terrain theory.
Germ theory still explains what happened to the Native Americans and small pox much better than Terrain theory. It explains why for thousands of years humans recognized that sick humans were contagious, because it was being observed. It is also an innate response to steer clear of sick looking creatures.
Germ theory also explains rabies disease + treatment better than terrain theory. And lyme disease transmission makes sense under Germ theory.
When someone is stabbed and then 3 days later dies from infection, they were not killed by bacteria, they were killed by the wound. The germ theory paradigm is wrong in that it would have everyone taking antibiotics instead of trying to find the stabbers.
