As cynical as I am, once again I was not cynical enough. I had little suspicion when I read this article on him yesterday: American fighters who surrendered in Donbass speak to RT

Why, he really just sort of wandered into the whole thing:

Drueke, who left the US military in 2014, initially set out for Ukraine without a clear plan. Flying to Poland with the intention of doing humanitarian work, he nevertheless brought military gear and said that he was prepared to fight....

Ah, just a drifter, with time and money enough to fly to Eastern Europe on an indefinite trip. Like so many of our ex-servicemen, eh?

Then this caught my eye, but I chalked it up to lax reporting:

The two veterans – Drueke served two tours with the US Army in Iraq while Huynh worked in logistics for the Marine Corps in Okinawa, Japan....

No mention of what Drueke did. Did the reporter not ask? Did Drueke decline to specify? Truck repair or clerk/typist perhaps? Now looks like probably something else, huh?

This also caught my eye but, again, I was not sufficiently suspicious:

Under the command of Ukraine’s secret police, the SBU, Huynh said that the pair were sent to cover a Ukrainian retreat.

The SBU is now commanding troops in the field? Or was it perhaps a mission of a more sensitive nature?

My suspicions are now aroused, and I very much suspect all this will not go over well at Drueke's trial.
