Hebrews 7, Paul explains this in good detail. Melchizidek was the principal high priest in an order of eternal priests. There is an order from which the legalism of the Old Testament intersected through works and sacrifices. When Jesus defeated death and atoned for the fallen, He established a new order since He satisfies all the conditions for a high priest and as King of Peace/Righteousness.
IMO it is not equating His divinity only His sufficiency to also serve as this High Priest. Paul also clearly articulated that Melchizidek is no longer necessary.
23 Now there have been many of those priests, since death prevented them from continuing in office; 24 but because Jesus lives forever, he has a permanent priesthood. 25 Therefore he is able to save completely[c] those who come to God through him, because he always lives to intercede for them.
Some have written that the Son of God, Jesus Christ, was the (an) embodiment of the spirit of Melchizedek; that they are one and the same. Almost like Christ (Jehovah) had missions to perform on this earth
Yes, Christ is the God of the Old and New Testament. You must not have read the book. If you did, you must not have understood it. If you did, you must not have believed it. If you do, you must not have practiced it. Or you're Jewish.
You need to go to the oldest known Old testament translations and your eyes will be opened. I guarantee you I've read more older translations than you will ever read in your life.
I took a quick look at the subject and studied these key sources: Melchizedek and Sydyk.
Very long and convoluted story short, I wouldn't waste too much time on this issue because I suspect most or all of the scholarship on it is erroneous and misleading. SPOILER ALERT: Sydyk is the son of who we know better as Satan.
However, if you're really interested I'd be happy to answer any questions!

Lol, Christ character in Bible is not Jehovah or reincarnation of thereof.
