The first vertically integrated international supply chain was The Vesty Brothers who farmed beef in Argentina and imported it into Britain to sell in their Dewhurst The Butchers chain of stores.
They invented Transfer Pricing (so all the profits were centred in Argentina under a captured government) and the UK part made very little profit. They also invented trust funs and the "non-domicile resident status" was created for them so they could retain British Citizenship and rights but not pay income tax.
The UK Tax office pursued them through the courts for over 100 years to try and make them pay tax.
They also built the first refrigerated cargo ship in 1870 so they could transport their beef frozen.
The family head is now known as Baron Vestey and they are some of the UK's richest people.
