This weekend there was a grand opening of a railroad museum, and a 100+ year old steam engine ran again after a 6 year idk how many millions to repear.
There's tons of coal, and there's many more steam engines that run for tourist attractions.
They wont let you mine coal now either,most of that stuff was converted to disel in the fifties,the unconverted stuff lights shit on fire like csx moving into your town and they blow up.you are correct there are alternatives but we pretty much hav ed it dialed in now.
They have to be mining it somewhere, I see it being used daily. It probably has crazy restrictions on it though. Running the steam engine has crazy restrictions.
