Seemed to me like almost all the old religions were birthed along the path of those particular migrants. Judaism, Hellenism, the Pagans... As though a single family has a monopoly on generating gods.
Consider William the Conqueror, how Edward Ætheling sent his daughter to hide in Kiev before she eventually returned to England to Westminster Abbey. That would be what I propose as the "religion creators" arriving back in the region briefly around the turn of the 12th century.
