I was told recently that the duck and cover was not for the blast but more for the flash of defensive explosion in atmosphere of some kind. Like iron dome.
Nukes power isn't just the explosion, it's also the shock wave it launches out. Getting under something to avoid being hit by the shock wave and avoid falling debree is good advice.

That's not an exhaustive list or anything. Just literally the first result when I searched for it.
I remember in around 2007 or so being really nervous about what was going to happen once Iran tested a nuclear weapon. But here we are 15 years later and it still hasn't happened lol.
