If a man is stealing your TV and you punch him, did you start the fight?

You can try to do some mental gymnastics and blame the guy who threw the first punch but that's a leftist worldview. In reality, good people know a punch never would have occured if the thief didn't try stealing the TV. Therefore the thief started it.
