I got this cool link from that thread that shows cancellations. It says 2853 cancellations today, but I don't know if that's considered "a lot" by them or not.
Suspect the cost of fuel would have caused them to operate at a loss? It's cheaper to pay people a refund and force them to repurchase tickets at higher price.
I heard Alaska pilots were negotiating by not showing up for work, but the wind was 35-40 with gusts 70+, so there might have been flights cancelled around here (SeaTac) anyway.

Of course, to hear the airlines tell it, it's just business as usual. Nothing to see here.
Wait til they start cancelling flights not 100% sold because they cant afford the fuel. Milk is $6 a gallon. Who gives a fuck?
Alaskan Airlines is cancelling flights due to a pilots strike. That would probably add significantly to the total.

I think they buy fuel in bulk ahead of time so the fluctuations don't hit as hard.
Not positive though
Agreed. I think they likely purchase 60-70% up front and leave the remaining as float since they don't want to over purchase
My managers had their flights cancelled due to strikes from Alaska Air pilots
I saw a post how in the UK and in Europe they were also canceling flights
hopefully they all fall and never fly again. fucking pieces of shit
I know American Airlines is struggling with not enough pilots right now.
It's windy in the NW today. Canceled flights.
"boss, it's windy. cant' come into work"
