I have to comment about this. I absolutely LOVE period dramas. Other than science documentaries this is all I watch.
I started to watch Bridgerton and realized it is fully woke. The characters are so off base with regard to proper representation of the period. I refuse to watch such completely wrong representation.
While there were blacks in Edwardian/Victorian England/France, they were certainly not in the positions these people in Bridgerton are positioned. There were probably some wealthy blacks but as for this mixed representation it is complete hooey.
I was scrolling through Netflix (we get it free through my girlfriend's Tmobile account, I wouldn't pay for it) and saw the picture for this show. The immediate question in my mind was "Why the fuck is there what appears to be a British period piece starring black people?"
I used to read that author, and I never saw anything that wasn't historical fiction at it most acurrate. I have always loves trashy novels, but historical romance was my favorite for a long time.
It's never enough for these people. I think they would want to go as far as banning hetero normative relationships on tv.
They want porn. They want you to let your kids watch the porn as well.
