Because the oil market globally is tight. If a major supplier anywhere goes down it'll have a big impact on the price.
When a major supplier is taken out even if we weren't buying any oil from them it'll cause whoever was buying oil from them to seek out oil from the remaining suppliers. We're buying oil from those suppliers.
Even if the US was 100% energy independent losing a major producer would still spike our prices because US suppliers aren't going to sell the oil domestically for $60 a barrel when they can sell it to Europe for $150 a barrel.
