I can definitely understand wanting to go back to defend your homeland but to leave 3 children behind to go to a battle that they will likely eventually lose is completely irresponsible in my opinion
Years ago I was introduced to someone who was "paying for their education" by living in another country part of the year to build explosive devices. Supposedly, it wasn't hard: learn the local language well enough and create a cover story about being from a nearby country with a minority population of my ethnic group.
