Are you prepared to consider that the "silly flat earth" you have experience with was a heavily funded and advertised misinformation campaign? You may be surprised to learn, that earnest flat earth research is not related to that or anything like you thought it was!
I assure you, it is quite the opposite. Reality is stranger than fiction because fiction is obliged to possibility. Once you understand physics and "dimensional space" you recognize that! Most people never get there :(
That's true. There is no alternative model. Just the one we are conditioned to believe in and required to faithfully repeat in order to matriculate (conditioning by rote, under the guise of education from childhood). Generally, earnest researchers are not involved nor particularly interested in creating an alternative model. They are busy engaging with research instead!
I have! It is interesting. Scott adams (dilbert) likes it a lot, i believe. And a batman? comic book illustrator is, I believe, the source.
Some of the flat earth researchers subscribe to it, and likewise there are some who toy with the conception of a spherical earth much larger than we are told.
Interesting! I like many, did enjoy some x-files. I'll check it out, for the "predictive programming" lulz, or perhaps art imitating life / life imitating art.

I appreciate the offer and civil discussion but I'll never be able to believe the earth isn't a spheroid. The mountains of information that make ball earth fit into these nice little models is lacking for all "flat" models. Flat earth is a neat thought experiment but nothing that can shift my paradigm.
That's good! That is also core to flat earth research. Belief is our enemy. Most all people, likely including yourself, believe that the world is spherical and this is both not knowledge, and directly against it.
There are no "flat earth models". There is only the model that we are required to believe and repeat in order to matriculate. There are no others available, and building a new one can be expected to take on the same order that the first one did (somewhere between 100's and 1000's of years).
We also don't determine what reality is, or how it works by model. Instead, we use science! Models are metascience at absolute best. They are tools for specific and limited purpose. All models are wrong, but some are limitedly useful for a limited time. In order to determine the shape of the world, we must measure the shape of the world. Models are in no way involved.
You are ahead of the curve in recognizing your belief, and your choice to prefer it. Most people are not so self aware! Your invitation stands in any case, if you change your mind, want to share your views with others, or just express disagreement!
I'll stick to the model that makes logical sense and can be physically represented in small scale. Have fun with your magical non-euclidian video game model.
BTW, the flat earth rocket scientist killed himself on his second flight but never got even close to cruising altitude for passenger jets. This is why I call flat Earth "low IQ" but then again you don't think planes are even real.
I have an open mind but it's not so open that my brain fell out. I update my views of reality quite often but it's just that, an "update". What flat earth is asking is that you throw everything you think you believe or know since your first memories as a toddler through school and even decades of personal experience in the world in the trash. You have to consider flat earth from a literal point of ignorance or you will reject it. It is the only mainstream conspiracy theory that requires this level of disconnect from learned experience. Every other conspiracy in the world works with the ball model. What is even the reason to hide the shape of the world? Why can't a true "flat" model exist?
