Jonathan Kleck has an explanation for it. His videos were removed from youtube, but maybe they are somewhere else now.

Hagia Sophia: Mary clothed in black holding the golden son. Never noticed Mary places her left foot forward indicating the entrance just as lady liberty.
I really think Jesus would be like, how bout ya don't. Not to say Peter wasn't a cool guy, I even hope he'd be uncomfotable with this and what a great conversation that'll be. I'm guessing at a catholic conspiracy you're presenting here, amiright?
No conspiracy at all Peter has his cross inverted for a reason the same reason this chair is also inverted. The black parts of the chair represent the womb, the light above representing the divinity descending. Like how Ra has to descend to the underworld or realm of darkness every night and rise at the dawn. These are just one of many esoteric concepts in the vatican.
“The earth was formless and empty, and darkness covered the deep waters. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the surface of the waters.” One of my face quotes.
What makes you think this chair was inverted? What is the reason you alluded to?
That requires a very very long explanation. In short the concept of the womb as the underworld or darkness can be found all over. There is a descent to the womb right before you ascend.
The chair looks right side up to me.
See my post above.
