I think a lot of the support for Trump here and other alternative sites was manufactured. I believe the Trump campaign harnessed the power of digital marketing and made it seem like there was was lot more support for him than there really was. It was effective.
Except we're talking about what actually happened. Not what might have happened. Pretty easy to look like you're doing a good job when you're being compared to a worst case scenario that never happened.
I can't speak for everyone obviously, but for me I don't think it was ever about "trusting Trump".
It was "I trust whomever Trump is running against / pissing off this week even less."
That first video, professionally shot, where he was filmed saying he's sick of Trump during an "outtake" seemed like a total larp. But seeing him on tim pool last night he seems serious about distancing himself. Most likely getting ahead of a trend to keep his brand alive. But sometimes people do the right things for the wrong reasons and it still has the same result as if their intentions were pure. As a side note, it was no accident that he was sitting next to Blair.
