SMS is terrible for 2FA, and yet all my banks require it and don't support TOTP. AndOTP and Aegis Authenticator are good open source alternatives on Android.
?? Why do you think that "I" am endorsing sms?? I aggressively agree with you!
It's crap. Not sure why anyone ever used it for authentication, and it offends me that they still require it, though I now know legally why. They want to be able to let the feds duplicate your internet traffic thru your mobile sms back and forth and capture your banking also. This is part of the "anti money laundering act"
The thing is they don't let you voluntarily make the connection or offer an actual secure app
You're 100% correct, which is why we need p2p internet infrastructure. If you're in a major city there's probably a meshnet group you can join, it's a start.
It's possible to make crypto cash locally tho. Thing of it this way, in your small town you the people establish a bank, basically a warehouse where you can lockup assets. This time and unlike the globalists banks with full transparency. Then for every item deposited to this warehouse an entry of new value is added to the blockchain.
You then have a local WAN in the town, so when an item is deposited to blockchain you all receive this update in the next block, verify it and now has the latest updated wallet. Let's even make it so that the system updates once per day or week max. This means, you'll have the most recent version, even if you lose WAN connectivity for a few days.
Now why you you wanna do this then? Well because now you have a local currency, which you can print to slips of paper, and unlike regular cash you can verify that it actually has the value it claims to have by scanning it's QR code in case you don't trust the person trying to pay you. Best of all, this new local currency is also backed 1:1 by real physical gods. Also make sure to regularly audit the "bank" and switch the people responsible for it with votes on a regular basic, and ban loans.
Then if they at some point tries to steal from the warehouse hang them high in nearest light pole.
I will have to look into this. Thank you for the mention. There is so much to learn with crypto, I'm always looking into it even though i'm not financially invested in it, it seems its not going away, even if it were to crash
I am VERY interested in blockchain for anti-censorship
IPFS is an innovation I can get behind (ethereum / contracts based file storage blockchain that drives odyssey)
Don't be rude. I'm not invested in crypto. I know people who are, one who put life savings. Even though I've warned about the 'unknowns' of crypto, and thought I still think crypto has a HUGE place in elections (but maybe not there yet for money because it needs a centralized administration to insure against losses and crime), I don't want poeple to lose their money
Why would you wish this on someone? If you're not invested in crypto then it seems it would be harmless to you. It may even be helping absorb billions of excess fiat dollars, which curbs inflation.

I've been saying this exact thing for a while.

Some of the biggest meshnetworks were actually started by farmers.

and the other one that does entire websites
blockchain is the anti-thesis for liars & crooks.
also, fuck banks.
And as soon as you have the option, switch to a 2FA application like yubikey or a desktop app rather than SMS
Is reddit leaking again?
