Why is it a hate crime to make fun of or criticize a politician? This only happens in a police state such as China or the USSR. This isn't just my opinion, it's a well known feature of totalitarian states: https://foreignpolicy.com/2013/04/05/why-dictators-dont-like-jokes/
And should this so called hate-crime not also extend to Dr. Mercola or any of the other so called "Dirty Dozen"? They're all doctors and scientists after all.
On the flip side:
Why isn't it a hate crime to call someone a plague-rat? It's clearly meant to incite rage and violence. If it were against a specific race, it would be racist, if it were against a specific gender or orientation, it would be sexist, if it were against children or the elderly it would be ageist. Wouldn't it also be unacceptable to make fun of the billionaire class? or the ultra poor?
Where do we draw the line?
What happened to "I may not agree with your point of view, but I will defend to the death your right to say it" -- Voltaire ?
What is healthy debate to some is criminal dissent to others.
Dr. Peter Hotez, a professor of pediatrics and molecular virology at Baylor College of Medicine is calling for federal hate-crime protections to be extended to cover criticism of Dr. Anthony Fauci and other scientists.
The frequent MSNBC and CNN guest wants Congress to expand hate crimes to “scientists currently targeted by far-right extremism in the United States.”
Meme virality is an agency decision.
