The thing is, this kind of shit never happens except when governments have a hand in it. And it starts with vilifying the enemy and viewing them as sub-human, therefore justifying what they do.
In most cases, if you travel the world and meet ordinary people, you'll find they have a lot of things in common - they just want to left alone to take care of their kids, to make a better life for their kids, to improve their own lives. They take care of their neighbors, and family and friends and unless they suffer from xenophobia (induced through politics and government), they tend to be friendly and welcoming of strangers, and they're pro-peace and prosperity. This was true in Affuckingstan before the 1970s, it's true of Arabs, Jews, and Christians and Buddhists and in general almost every culture.
This is in general the state of humanity everywhere. Yeah, sure there are a few that tend to be criminal here and there, they're driven by ambition and don't mind the means to the ends. These tend to rise to the top of governments.
