If you don't bring yours somewhere, they'll either ask for your ID and use some government software to do a lookup, or they'll just refuse service. "This is (current year)...why don't you have your smartphone with you? Why don't you have a smartphone at all?" Heck, I think Google once asked me for a BACKUP phone number. So apparently we should all be running around with two smartphones.
