The sacrifice ritual must use persons who symbolize different (but fixed) roles. At the end they all must die one way or the other, but of these the girl in the role of the virgin is decreeted by fate, so it's not important that she dies or survives, given that she suffers.
I think the metaphor could be considerated here:
The athlet takes the vaccine to keep showing himself off to a public, the whore to party, the intellectual to work and study, the wild dog refuses but he's hunted down for that. They all suffer bad effects and in the time of 10 doses they are almost sure to die within 5 years.
The virgin might be the child who is young enough to both take the vaccine and adapt successfully. However he will suffer loss all around him and become isolated.
