Tophets, the places where child sacrifice was done in Jerusalem and elsewhere, were linked to the Phoenicians and Carthaginians as well. I certainly think it plausible that the Aztecs were influenced by them, and that even places like Bohemian Grove were Phoenician originally.
So the stone markers at tophets sometimes had the word MLK meaning sacrifice on them, sometimes with other words denoting type of sacrifice.
My random thought was that MLK was virtually the same as Moloch, and indeed there is some speculation that Moloch was actually sacrifice or a type of sacrifice, not a god. The owl at Bohemian Grove always seemed to be more likely about Minerva or Lilith than Moloch.
'Course the Podesta emails have the actual Moloch reference, so I'm inclined to think that they believe it's real. They're all bootlickers though, so they'll worship anything at the drop of a hat to gain any advantage.
Even on a personal level it's for exactly the same reason. Just swap "to bless my crops and give us a good harvest" with "more freedom and financial independence to do what I want."
In some ways, the modern reason is actually more evil.
Interesting parallel.

It's like that one yearbook meme of the dude saying, "It's not enough that I should succeed-others should fail."
It's rather funny because of the truth of it.
