Not necessarily. If they won history would sing a far different tale.
Do I agree. It isn't the argument on a comparison.
What they had was patriotism. They believed they were right. It didn't matter who they were. Because they were heroes. Duty service valor and honor. There was a cause greater than themself.
Of course that war was also profitable. People exploit and are exploited. The same corps played both sides profiting. Of course by fighting there was the greed of its ventures. Not the point on why the majority fought in it.
Would you not have fought then. Would you not have given it your life. If you didn't, did you simply submit profiting?
You play the game now. Except today it if for very different reasons. They are often greed instead of service.
Then it was different, society was vastly different. It was full of Patriots. The chain of command all served their nation with national service. Sure there was peasants and lordships as well. But to get a hallmark, patent, or medal meant service to your nation with deeds of merit, these were from service or innovation. Not purely consumption. Today fiction gets a medal, being foreign gets a medal, being a footballer gets a medal. Society today is far more corrupt on what it considers patriotic.
A product of consumption excess and vanity. As a result no real unity. Patriotism is frowned on, religion is dead. Instead we have divides increasing.
