Masks are complete and total bullshit. I taught patient care. For masks to work, they’d have to be removed properly. This means not touching the face. This means not re-using masks unless they are washed.
A mask cannot stop a virus by itself. The virus must be suspended in sputum which the mask can block. You must remove the mask properly to avoid putting your hand in the sputum and getting the virus on your hands. (if the virus gets on your hands and you put your hands in your mouth or whatever, then virus can enter the body). And of course if you fail to do that you must wash your hands to get rid of the virus.
Given the absolutely wrong way people wear masks, the masks are likely to harbor bacteria and viruses that make people sick. People end up getting sick more often than they normally would if they didn’t wear a mask.

I think you are ignoring who OWNS “the governments” - buying a politician is apparently cheap. Smart overlords would purchase politicians, who then control which laws are made or enforced, with ownership of propaganda outlets creating fake compliance (as in, “we are all doing this because it is OUTRAGEOUS not to do so”).
Large corporations are run by a handful of people who use middle management to make things happen, while the workers just do what they are told. It is a simple philosophy - your paycheck is dependent on your compliance. Integrity is expensive.
