Go take a picture in a pitch black room, and then crank up the brightness in photoshop. You'll see the same things in your image. There is no data in the pure black areas, so compression. Makes those areas just blocks of black.

That's far away from the truth as it can... In case of compression, the image will slightly keep the form of the original object - in this case, a globe. Therefore, there should be circular lines as in an actual jpeg compression. However, we see squares which shows that it is NOT compression.
If you are not educated enough - I am fine with that, but don't mislead the rest.
