I believe the Micro nova theory calls for a stopping and reversal of the planets rotation. Where as it flipping over, would allow it to continue to spin in the same direction while reversing it's direction in orbit, and still cause cataclysmic damage to the surface. Which is a highly more likely event to a reversal.
So, three aspects of the same event. Micro Nova, Pole reversal and planetary inversion.
Again, I see this event taking place in an incredibly short time frame, with very little warning, leading back to my earlier theory on motive.
