I’ve certainly spent a non-negligible amount of my posts here calling out shills, however I also agree that “calling out” is only slightly above shilling itself in terms of productive discourse added, so I try to inject some substance into it, but idk sometimes, like anyone I wager, I get triggered enough to just call them a faggot and move on. Immature, offensive, mean even, but to my monkey brain, an “effective” method of closure...
I made a post once about a medal system, where users with “verified” (in some way to be decided by the community, but submission karma or comment karma or whatever method of screening we figure is best for screening out 80% of the bad faith contributors) status could award medals to posts that indicate either high quality contribution and or low quality shill bait as a way of overriding vote manipulation and sockpuppeting, I like the effect it has on the places that use similar systems but I understand it would be pretty radical to either code or convince others it’s worth implementing.
Do you think a sorting option sorted by recent comment would be a good way to alleviate some of this? That was another idea I had, evoking the float or die nature of 4chan, and since all submissions are kept on the servers it shouldn’t be too bid a deal to rig up for boards who want it
