It is very funny to observe the people in surgical masks at -20C(-4F) here. It is literally visible how water vapour particles pass through that dumb surgical masks without any significant obstacle. Even wool scarfs we usually used to wrap around face at cold times stops more. And there still a lot of people who believe that surgical masks are better than scarfs or any other fabric. PS: We have mandatory masks only in groceries, supermarkets and other public buildings (completely unlawful, but who cares about laws in Russia), however, you don't have to wear mask outside.
