Jesus was a revolutionary who encouraged critical thinking, challenging dogmatic authority, practicing genuine empathy and not being afraid of personal growth through introspective humility. Your rant describes the pharisee types, which are the same today as they were back then. They had Jesus executed by the way, for daring to challenge them publicly.
I think the gnostic (christian) story makes the most sense, of the bunch. So much ancient knowledge has been suppressed by the various (capital R)eligions.
While scraps of ancient wisdom remain in them, like you say, you can have many of the same flashes of insight through “fiction” tales too. I think it has to do with jung’s archetypes...
The eternal return... what is happening now has happened before, and will happen again
this post is funny because the Christ (whoever and whatever it was, a smart and revolutionary politician as far as I'm concerned, in direct opposition with the scholars of the old testament) introduced internal control in the new testament (among other interesting spiritual technologies such as universalism for example), the kingdom of god is within you.

I agree with you. I believe there is a higher power, but I don't think anybody knows what it is.

All sounds hypocritical, you say not to listen to other people about religion but in the same breath we shoud take your advice.
Nope.
