Notice it's always the spy devices that get given away for deep discounts on Black Friday and Cyber Monday. They're not selling you a product. You are the product.
I'm convinced this is the reason 60"+ 4k TVs are being sold for less than $500.
There is simply no way they are making a dime on the hardware itself at prices that low. Instead, money is made of pre-installed bloatware to monitor your every conversation and activity, and then sell the info to the highest bidder.
Nah the cheap 4k TVs just look really bad. Look at some of them in stores and you'll see it if you have a discerning eye for color accuracy and sharpness.
I love the idea of surveillance with notifications and being able to tell my lights to turn off and shit.... But that has to be closed circuit, or void of all 3rd parties.
Yea, I was gonna say "All I have is a computer and a RETARDED 'smart' phone" but then I was like "Well the computer is a fucking computer and the phone, as cheap as it is, is still a mini computer". That's not to mention my tech geek roommate and my other asshole roommate that thinks these items are status symbols and so has all the "smart" shit he can get because he thinks it makes him smart or something. There's no getting away from the surveillance in most of America.
Intel's IME is basically a separate OS for Israel to use. It is basically "above" your system.. all the passwords in the world don't matter if you can access systems resources such as memory.
Modems, routers also have backdoors... it used to be for domestic spying but now all Chinese produced electronics can, and very possibly, have backdoors.
I'm pretty sure by now China has most people's data, including fingerprints, iris, browsing habits, etc.
I have FreeBSD boxen and a pfSense router. Any phones are on a separate wifi network that's isolated.
I have a smartphone but the only app I have on it is a podcast app. I don't use it for anything except emergency calls and it spends most of it's time off in a glovebox.
Nothing that isn't airgapped is completely secure, but I sure don't make it easy!
I'm in high tech and yet I purposely use only a dumb flip phone, avoid Facebook and Twitter, do NOT have an Alexa or anything that listens or watches, no smart TV. And I'm happy. IoT isn't necessary for me.
Yeah IDK, I take my chances with stuff like this. If I ever become someone important or a more public figure going against the d/s, I would definitely worry about it then.

My motto is, if I can't build it myself, then I don't need it.

Define: build. You ARE on the internet right now....
Guess I'm not an expert, I've just got a 1994 laser printer.

Unifi gear here. I control my network. Well - as well as is possible these days anyway..
