tbh I made sure to set this up partly because I saw the writing on the wall, for me and for /r/conspiracy in general.
One of the great things here is you can still see the actual up/down ratio of votes here, so you can see when/where the shills are active.
When reddit hid that feature, it was the beginning of the end.
We're currently working on a system here to combat shills but maintain the spirit of free speech.
It's starting to be come clearer I think.
I still think it was surreal to hear "reddit conspiracies" in Congress, see everyone go "uh-oh", and then basically wake up to a ban and removal from the mod team. bam.
haha when I saw Patrick Byrne's first italygate tweet a couple of weeks ago I'll admit I was so tired of election conspiracies I only reluctantly shared it.
I probably wouldn't have touched it again if I didn't notice the pushback.
I'd probably still be mod but the way this went down is actually super poetic and actually makes me feel OK about things.

every account that was banned broke the rules. We have rules for a reason. Those that appealed their bans and said they'd follow the rules were let back in.

No they're doing this today because he stickied one of the most damaging leak ever. If you don't believe me, keep posting about Italygate and see how this sub reacts. This sub is under control now.
They cited my post called "the night of the digital long knives" but in the thread I clearly was saying how it meant the current crackdown from big tech.
The only time before that I was given a warning for "inciting violence" from the admins was when I used the phrase "shoot the messenger" when talking about a whistleblower being unfairly punished.
I made numerous threads about it at the time because I was worried they were going to use it as a pretext to ban me.
Looks like they got me on another semantic technicality because I mentioned knives in another well-known metaphor?
I think when TMOR has threads with 10,000's of upvotes telling folks to mass report me to the admins, they probably just got sick of dealing with it.
tbh the amount of harassment and threats I've received over the rules, plus the admins historically giving me the cold shoulder, plus their unceremonious removal of me this morning, 12 hours after "reddit conspiracies" is evoked on the Senate floor...I think that's legitimately significant and even newsworthy.
But what do I know.

I think AATA will defend the sub at all costs and I also think the admins trust him with the reins.
I also think that removing me was def a PR move after the Senate thing last night so they can say they did something...perhaps a quarantine soon too but honestly I think they'll be happy to let the sub be overrun, which it surely will now.

It's wild. It really is. I made a post on reddit about it this morning.
I honestly thought the whole italyate premise was pretty outrageous and implausible. I was the first to post a thread on /r/conspiracy about it right after christmas (found it on patrick byrne's twitter).
When I posted another a week later, I found via search only one other thread after mine...basically crickets on /r/conspiracy.
I think part of the reason I dismissed it initially was that I wasn't seeing it anywhere.
Then all of the sudden it started exploding! But there was SO much other stuff going on, it tended to get lost in the fray. But you see, over the years I've learned to figure out what the juicy conspiracies are by how much they're buried.
There's a notably different voting pattern between a thread that's just a shitty ass conspiracy that nobody liked and a thread with a juicy conspiracy that gets actively suppressed.
For example, they often don't vote "down ballot" (lol) when they brigade, so the comments in brigaded threads will often have as many as a dozen or two upvotes, while the thread itself is kept at zero.
The bots or whatever they use generally leave the comments alone and just hit the thread, effectively burying it anyway. But the real engagement from users can be seen in the comment scores.
As for ITALYGATE, I noticed my threads getting hit HARD...even harder than the usual election interference stuff, which is weird, because they usually leave alone the certifiably kooky stuff.
They weren't doing that. Does that mean it's 100% true? Of course not, but it means it's something they don't want us discussing.
The very strange thing is a lot of italian natives have been commenting on that thread...it's definitely gotten the attention of some italian subs or something.
Not only that, but I got an unprecedented number of personal attacks for stickying it...in PM and in the actual thread itself. Check the removed comments, it's nuts.
This is a hot issue somehow, and having it stickied on /r/conspiracy has legitimately ruffled some feathers IMHO.

I want to note that the mods there still have my thread stickied. That actually takes some balls, and props to them. I do trust the team there to do what's right, but the reason I'm so "hated" is that I play the "aggressive" role when it comes to the /r/all brigades, and I fear my absence will hurt the sub in the long run, which partly explains the shills' gleeful cacophony right now.
I'm really starting to think that sharing this story on reddit got me banned.
