I always assumed Jim Morrison faked his death. He was pressured into fame by his father/handlers, hated it, and was self-destructing from drugs. Faking death in a foreign country is one way to get out of that life and go live peacefully somewhere else. This was before the internet and when the media could easily control whatever narrative they wanted.
