Just based off the natural progression of pesidents this is evient now. I remember being "taught" that Nixon was paranoid and recorded every conversation he had. And after all, the watergate fiasco was about his team breaking in to search for info on conspiracies against him.

I also think Reagan was put in check by having one of the assasins of JFK as his VP, who later of course became president. By then they had decided they should just put their own people in the oval office.
