Companies can earn carbon credits by burning methane. Methane produces carbon dioxide and water when burned, and carbon dioxide is considered healthier for the environment than methane. So what have they started doing?

There are companies whose business model is to just burn methane and then sell the credits to higher polluting companies (lots of buyers in California), so that they can keep favorable scores. No joke, this produces no energy, and just puts CO2 in the air so that the big companies can claim to be green.
