The more money you have (past a certain point), the more anxiety you have about people/institutions coming and taking it from you or harming you to get it. Thus it is a natural reaction for these people to seek power to protect their "precious" wealth. The more you acquire, the more power the individual feels they need to have to protect it.
For example im broke, and I have absolutely no fear to walk down any street in the world. But a Billionaire has to watch his back literally every where he goes, he also has to fear for his kids being taken constantly.....so it is a sickness you see, an un-ending NEED to control as much of the world as possible, but the more you control, the more you need to acuire to control it...i.e. a feedback loop pushing them further and further each time they level up.
