They've run a fruit fly's brain in a computer, which is the beginning of the end. This proves a brain can be run in a computer. The difference between a fruit fly's brain and a human's, as far as computer simulation is concerned, is scale.

Once a human's brain can be run in a computer, computers will by definition be at the human level of intelligence. From there, the only question is whether the computing power it takes to run a human brain can be made cheaper than hiring an actual human to use his brain.
