Pre-Nicene Christianity was vastly different from Post-Nicene Christianity. Origen (185-254 CE) was the most prominent Christian theologian in his time. Contrary to the mainstream theology and manner of Biblical text interpretation of Modern Christianity, Origen interpreted the Bible allegorically and taught reincarnation.
Preserved in the annals of history is evidence, that at one point in time, Christianity was a tiered religion that contained secret doctrine that wasn't told to the masses. In Contra Celsum, Origen wrote a rebuttal to an earlier work by Celsus which attacked early Christianity. In book 1, chapter 7 Origen wrote:
"Moreover, since he frequently calls the Christian doctrine a secret system (of belief), we must confute him on this point also, since almost the entire world is better acquainted with what Christians preach than with the favourite opinions of philosophers. For who is ignorant of the statement that Jesus was born of a virgin, and that He was crucified, and that His resurrection is an article of faith among many, and that a general judgment is announced to come, in which the wicked are to be punished according to their deserts, and the righteous to be duly rewarded? And yet the mystery of the resurrection, not being understood, is made a subject of ridicule among unbelievers. In these circumstances, to speak of the Christian doctrine as a secret system, is altogether absurd. But that there should be certain doctrines, not made known to the multitude, which are (revealed) after the exoteric ones have been taught, is not a peculiarity of Christianity alone, but also of philosophic systems, in which certain truths are exoteric and others esoteric. Some of the hearers of Pythagoras were content with his ipse dixit; while others were taught in secret those doctrines which were not deemed fit to be communicated to profane and insufficiently prepared ears. Moreover, all the mysteries that are celebrated everywhere throughout Greece and barbarous countries, although held in secret, have no discredit thrown upon them, so that it is in vain that he endeavours to calumniate the secret doctrines of Christianity, seeing he does not correctly understand its nature."
In that passage, Origen addresses the charge of Christianity being a secret system of belief by saying it's not in an overall sense, but admits that it does contain secret doctrines not communicated to the masses. He basically says that Christianity was structured like the Mystery Religions in the manner of the masses receiving exoteric doctrine, while the few received esoteric doctrines different than what the masses were taught.
What could have been some of those secret doctrines? Reincarnation and the Pre-Existent Soul
Like how christen (to anoint) implies separation, which amassing contradicts?
Being within nature implies eso (internal) within exo (external)...others suggest "certain truth" to tempt one to hold onto, while ignoring that exo separates eso internally during a process which cannot be held onto.
Joining a mass implies going into it aka from external towards internal. Consenting to a suggested doctrine implies internal consent inviting external doctrine in.
Aka being reaction (re) within (in) the flesh (carna) of action (tion) aka nature acts; each being reacts in the flesh.
Soul/sole implies "one and only". Existence implies each ones expressing (ex) stance (stence) within (i) the one and only.
Cause implies oneness; effect implies each one within. Cause (nature) implies the soul of each essential effect (being).
Aka secret/seco - "to divide" aka the division of all (god) into each one (christ) aka divinity.
Wasn't told to the masses, as in wasn't told to most people because they were too carnal in their manner of thinking to handle it.
Exoteric teachings are face-value ones that are external to a person. Esoteric teachings are deeper meaning ones that apply internally. Within various religions sacred texts, like those of the Bible, the places, names, numbers, and etc. are symbols and portray a different and deeper story than the face-value one that is personally relevant to the reader.
Each of our Souls were created at the beginning of Creation. We are like a neuron in the Mind of our Soul, whereas our Soul is like a neuron in the Mind of God. A person's Soul is God to them, and to our Souls, The One is God. What's God to a level of Creation is what is a level above it. To the animals of this world, we are basically Gods. God emanated throughout its Creation on various levels, where it gains experiential knowledge and is drawn back to its source.
Good analogy, yeah.
