The Apotheosis of Washington in the eye of the Rotunda of the U.S. Capitol. There's no picture of the God type character in there? Like that other one where you got this old god guy with the white beard touching the finger of the human. No.. none of that in theirs. Plus that looks like a triangle. (media.scored.co)

The Apotheosis of Washington in the eye of the Rotunda of the U.S. Capitol. There's no picture of the God type character in there?

When examining "The Apotheosis of Washington" in the U.S. Capitol Rotunda, it's important to understand the context of its artistic style and symbolism. Here's a breakdown:

Allegorical Representation:

The fresco, painted by Constantino Brumidi, depicts George Washington's "apotheosis," which means his elevation to godlike status. However, it's crucial to understand that this is done in an allegorical style, drawing heavily on classical mythology.

Instead of a traditional depiction of a Judeo-Christian God, the artwork uses Roman deities and personifications to convey its message.

Classical Influences:

The artwork is filled with figures from Roman mythology, such as:

Minerva (goddess of wisdom)

Neptune (god of the sea)

Mercury (god of commerce)

Vulcan (god of fire and metalworking)

Ceres (goddess of agriculture)

These figures, along with allegorical representations of Liberty and Victory, surround Washington, symbolizing his virtues and the nation's ideals.

Washington's Central Role:

George Washington himself is the central figure, depicted ascending to the heavens. This portrayal reflects the high esteem in which he was held by the nation.

The intent of the art, was to show Washington being raised to the ranks of the gods, or being glorified.

No Direct Judeo-Christian God:

The fresco does not depict a traditional Judeo-Christian God figure. Instead, it utilizes the visual language of classical mythology to convey a sense of divine honor and national symbolism.

In essence, "The Apotheosis of Washington" is a product of its time, reflecting the 19th-century fascination with classical art and symbolism. It uses this visual language to elevate Washington to a near-divine status, without directly representing a traditional God figure.

so there isn't this "god" type old guy with a white beard in that round painting on the ceiling?

That's correct. "The Apotheosis of Washington" in the Capitol Rotunda does not depict a traditional "God" figure with a white beard, like the common depictions of the Judeo-Christian God. Instead, it features:

George Washington: He is the central figure, being elevated to the heavens.

Classical Deities: The painting is filled with Roman gods and goddesses, like Minerva, Neptune, and others, representing various virtues and aspects of the nation.

Allegorical Figures: Personifications of Liberty, Victory, and other concepts are also present.

Therefore, while the painting is about apotheosis (elevation to godlike status), it uses classical and allegorical imagery, not a traditional depiction of God.

Meanwhile, they say on the money.. in God we trust. lol.. their god. Lucifer. lol. He's in the middle though.. the eye.

One: Try not to conflate the Capitol Rotunda with the Sistine Chapel...dope.

And shit, my mother is older than having "In god we trust" on our paper money...one of the stupider things Eisenhower did to make sure we had some sort of moral high ground during the cold war....

I see him doing the as above ao below gesture, although his right arm is on his leg so he does not point down to make it clear. But the hand and the left arm do.

It's that blanket over their legs which is very similar too. Now why would he have this knife instead of doing the same gesture with that arm.
