Don’t you find it alienating that the “traditional mass” of Roman Catholics is in a dead language? Especially given that it was written in 1570. The miracle of Pentecost the Holy Spirit descended and the apostles preached and everyone heard the gospel in their native tongue. We are told to preach the gospel to the nations why would it be in a dead language that most cannot understand?
We have different liturgies dating from the apostles and the most popular ones are from like what the 3rd or 4th century AD that are translated into the native tongue of the laity wherever they may be to connect with them. Why Latin? What’s so special about this 1500s tradition?
Not sure where you got your info, but the Latin Mass wasn't "written in 1570" with Quos Primas... It was merely standardized. The Mass was originally in Greek because that's what people commonly spoke in the Roman Empire in the First Century. Once Latin replaced Greek as the common tongue in the West (still in Antiquity) the Mass started being celebrated in Latin. By the late 4th century (around the same time the Catholic Church canonized the Bible) the Mass was said in the Western Church in Latin, and this remained universally true until 1964...
And to answer your question, St. Paul said to hold fast to our Traditions. from the late 300s to the 1960s, Western Christians were able to participate in the Latin Mass and knew what was happening, so why change it? Also, Latin, in addition to Greek and Hebrew, are all holy languages because those were the 3 languages written on the cross with the words "Jesus [of] Nazareth King [of the] Jews". In the Eastern Church they still use Greek in their Liturgy, so why shouldn't the Western Church still use Latin?
The Eastern church uses the language of the people it’s serving, just as the apostles did. Greek Eastern Orthodox I’m Greece do their services in Greek, Greek Eastern Orthodox in America do their services in English unless they have a majority of their parishioners who speak Greek. You admit your service was in Greek yet it’s now in a dead language, it’s alienating. Rome admits that the eastern church has valid sacraments apostolic succession and tradition but laments that we are stuck in the first 1000 years and haven’t developed. If translating the services and scripture to peoples native tongue is traditional, I’ll stick with the tradition. The apostles spoke the language of their audience. That’s in the Bible. Why would we want people to not understand?
I just follow along with my missal, which has the words in English... This isn't rocket science here...
