They have already war-gamed this with predictable outcomes
Planned : chaos, confusion, not enough information, price rises, shortages, riots, looting, extra policing, attacks against immigrants, small farms going bankrupt
Proposed "solutions" they will be pushing : cut farming subsidies (kill small farms), food provisioning, cutting down meat/milk/egg production, more centralized "healthy" food production (subsidised), more centralized control on consumption, limits on meat/egg/fish/milk consumption
How you can prepare, if you are so inclined:
Live healthily (animal products, 1-2 meals a day, no premade 'food-like items', whole foods, organic if you can afford)
Start a pantry, rotate items, concentrate on long shell-life essential fats and proteins. Nobody lives on potatoes, rice and pasta (almost no fats, no proteins).
Get to know a local (our out of town farmer). Start buying via co-op. Start talking to farmer about emergency funding, emergency preparedness (fuel, fertilizer, crucial parts). Try to see if you can get a group going via a co-op / farmer's market buying, so that you can help a small farmer in need (work/money) if need arises, and receive good quality food in exchange
Stop supporting the Big AgriCo and their fake food products, don't buy single one.
If you have space, time, and possibility, then grow some of your own food, learn to fish or hunt.
Crises come and go, just live your life. Yet, proper planning & preparation prevents piss poor performance.
Let's visit this in a year or two, to see if made any sense.
This is part of the Prepare for the Probable Future, instead of Living in the Unchangeable Past - post series.
Highly recommend bowhunting (at least a crossbow) in a true SHTF scenario. Hunting rifles have massive report - silencers help, but only most effective with subsonic ammo - and if you're taking game when people are starving, the last thing you need is someone stealing your kill (and your life) while you're dressing it out. Trad bows are simple tools with few moving parts that are easy to maintain and have reusable ammo. I'd skip the compound bow because they're usually even more complicated than a crossbow and require more maintenance. But I would take any bow for hunting larger game over a gun in a true SHTF scenario. Small game... okay, suppressed .22LR with subs is like a pellet gun (or just use a .22/.17 pellet gun). But otherwise save the gun for humans (and with that in mind, don't go hunting without at least a sidearm).
