The American in Britain was convicted. She initially returned to America invoking diplomatic immunity but was later returned to Britain because like this Israeli kid she was a consular not diplomatic corps and therefore not entitled to immunity. The reason for her light sentence which involved no jail time was because the kid she hit was speeding on his motorcycle which reduced her culpability (although she was still guilty because she was driving on the wron side of the road) and vehicular manslaughter in Britain normally only carries a suspended sentence and a fine which is what she got. When she returned to Britain she plead guilty instantly which again significantly reduces your sentence (Britain doesn’t have plea deals like America where you settle out of court with the prosecution for the sentence in return for a guilty plea- however if you plead guilty immediately upon being charged you will get the lightest sentence possible which is what happened).
Her diplomatic immunity was rejected like this Israeli kid but in a European country her sentence was obviously far lighter than what will be imposed in Florida unless this kid accepts a plea deal.
