there was some meme that every hallmark movie is a woman with her longterm boyfriend who is trying to make a million dollar deal at work that will set them up for life vs. some guy she meets back at her hometown.
so basically the conflict between beta bux and alpha fucks, where she gets to fuck the alpha dude.
It normally involves a woman as the hero who wants to do her own thing while her husband is the villain because he wants to live normally.
But yes they’re still better than most Hollywood movies and the cast are nearly always White (because white actors can’t get roles in Hollywood anymore so Hallmark/ReelOne snap them up).
I'm a romance writer, and that's basically the whole industry right now. Frustrated super-woman looks powerful during the day but cries into her ice cream at night. Heroic Chad dude catches her attention... but pursuing him means letting go of what society has told her to pursue. Adventure ensues, worldviews are challenged, flirtiness happens, and boom!
My guess is that a lot of women are seeing through the programming but too insecure to chase it in real life.
Romance movies and books always have involved the woman giving up any chance at a (((career))) to be with the man she loves. Look at twilight where the girl becomes a vampire just to be with Chad (while her injun friend dates her daughter).
Some hallmark movies slap, and you're right, they're traditional while appealing to the non-traditional

So long as it has Josie Davis murdering her way through the whole cast (most of whom she’s already murdered in previous movies) it’s cool.
