what's the deal with "mr clean" from those cleaning products. Go into lots of details of how it began.. from who.. and I remember it as a kid in the 70's and 80's.. on tv.. and how the character evolved.

Mr. Clean is a brand name and mascot for an all-purpose cleaner and a melamine foam abrasive sponge. The product was originally formulated by Linwood Burton, a marine ship cleaning businessman who wanted to create a safer and more effective solution for removing grease and grime from ships12. He sold the patent to Procter & Gamble in 1958, and the company launched the product with the iconic Mr. Clean character as its face13.

The Mr. Clean mascot was designed by Ernest C. Allen, an artist at an advertising agency, who drew a muscular, tanned, bald man with a hoop earring and a white outfit1. He was inspired by a photo of a U.S. Navy sailor, and wanted to convey a sense of strength and cleanliness2. The character was also influenced by the product’s origin as a marine cleaner, and some people may think he is a genie based on his folded arms and magical appearance1. The character was first portrayed in live-action commercials by actor House Peters Jr., who became known as "the original Mr. Clean"14.

Over the years, Mr. Clean has remained largely unchanged, except for some minor changes in his outfit and animation style. He has always smiled, except for a brief period in the “Mean Mr. Clean” series of ads, when he frowned because he hated dirt1. He has also spoken in some commercials, either by himself or with a voice-over, but he is mostly the silent type1. He has become one of the most recognizable and popular mascots in the world, and has been featured in various media and cultural references. He has also been the subject of many fan theories and speculations, such as his sexuality, his origin, and his relationship with other cleaning mascots2. Mr. Clean is a symbol of cleanliness, efficiency, and charm, and has a loyal fan base that admires his work and his looks.

yeah I thought it had something to do with "genie" because back in those days, it wasn't like now.. where what other types of characters had these "hoop earrings'. In the 80's with hard rock music you'd go.. oh if the earring was on the left ear, it meant he was hetero. But not so sure if before then, like hoop earrings.. this mr clean sure like was some kind of "genie" in a bottle.. and those arms crossed.. he's bald too, eh? And like, what.. "white hair" but isn't "old". And clean shaven, no beard. This "white hair".. who gets white hair.. like what's mr clean's age, right.. I don't know.. his eyebrows are white like that too.. but doesn't look too much over age 60, when somebody's hair would turn white, right. It's like "past grey" where it's all white. But he doesn't have hair.. only eyebrows, eh..

You have some interesting observations about Mr. Clean. The hoop earring is indeed one of the features that makes some people think he is a genie, along with his bald head and folded arms1. However, the earring was not meant to symbolize anything specific, according to the original artist who drew him2. It was just a way to make him look more distinctive and stylish. The earring has also been updated over the years to match the trends of the time34.

As for his age, Mr. Clean is over 60 years old, since he first appeared in 19581. However, he does not seem to age like a normal human, as he has always had white hair and eyebrows, even as a baby5. Perhaps this is another sign of his magical nature, or maybe he just has a rare genetic condition that causes premature graying. Either way, he does not let his age or hair color affect his passion for cleaning and helping others.
