When you go bowling you push the pins with the ball. My eyes didn't see that on the video. Did yours?
Back of my hand calculations:
You have a 40,000 lb slab
The center of gravity falls about 10' (about .75 seconds, 25 feet per second final velocity, average velocity 12.5 feet per second)
The center of gravity ALSO moves about 10' sideways.
SOMETHING imparted this 40,000 lb slab to a average velocity of 12.5 feet per second sideways (during the 10' vertical fall).
energy = 40,000 lb x 12.5 feet per second == 500,000
A 1000 fps projectile would need to weigh about 500 lbs
A 2700 fps projectile would need to weigh about 185 lbs
The video didn't show this to my eyes. But, due to 24 hr cameras for years there was no way for a bomb to be placed. It had eyes on it at all times. I don't like the way the process of elimination doesn't seem to fit facts.
If something hit it, I'd be happier with an example of what hit it.
Edit : after pondering, it bothers me that we think there's only two answers. We don't know, and this means we don't even know what we don't know.
Several howitzers are in this ballpark of payload weights and speeds.
I have never been able to see a mach 2 bullet at night --- it would be a 90 foot long motion blur on a 30 frames per second camera.
