There are multiple buildings in DC spelled wrong because Historical Societies won't allow them to fix it. That line doesn't look professional does it? They could have put a display near the stone with the correct information, that's the usual procedure.
You have found a curiosity with this chiseled out line.
In 1920, Congress approved the placement of a new delineation stone on the Ellipse, the Zero Milestone, which is an itinerary marker from which official mileages from Washington would be determined.[note 2] The new marker, a gift of the Lee Highway Association, was for some reason placed one foot west of the original meridian line extending north-south from the center of the White House.
In 1943, the Jefferson Memorial was completed due south of the White House on the Washington Meridian.[note 1][21] As a result, the Jefferson Pier now stands on a north-south line that passes near the centers of the "President's house" and the memorial dedicated to the president for whom the Pier is named.
So the Jefferson memorial.. if you go down from that line.. that's the same line.
The Jefferson Memorial was connected to the White house when I was little being dragged on tours they don't give anymore. The entire of DC is full of tunnels connecting buildings. But, it's kind of like how. " The Tomb of the Unknown Soldier" is misnamed these days. Due to DNA tech, we have known who that is for a long time.
I'm not kidding you. Your best bet is to find someone with vacation pics / video before digital. There's been a whole lot of change in DC.
Hang on I clicked the footnote from wiki for the reference page and there it says,
Another line, at some time crudely chiseled away except for the last three words, once read "BEING THE CENTRE POINT OF THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA."
This is more like the zero milestone just above it. This has to do with the other day when I was wondering where the + cross point of the centre of the DC diamond shape would be. If you look at all these posts, they can be off by feet. So this actual cross point is a bit in the back yard of the "Organization of American States" to the left of this zero point and Jefferson pier stone line. That OAS building wasn't there though when they built all this. Was some mansion. These guys were off by feet, with a lot of the stones along the way.. so they probably thought this zero milestone line was the + middle.
Let's see this zero milestone compared to the JEfferson pier stone, which was first.
The Jefferson Pier is this odd location compared to the Washinton monument.. it's like to the left of it and a bit up. The pier stone is more that line of the whitehouse.
marks the second prime meridian of the United States[1] even though it was never officially recognized, either by presidential proclamation or by a resolution or act of Congress.
I don't know what they're trying to do with all this. And what this chiseling out is about.
Where you see the pentagon star they drew around it like I did the other day. but I was facing north and was like.. it's however many degress counterclockwise from the north. Wasn't looking the way towards the capital. That's where it's pointing, eh.
Redid a star and the white house broken pentagram one. And the pentagon star does this upside down pentagram pointing towards that while house entrance hall.
Tried another line going to the capitol building.. and for it to line up with the pentagon star point, it goes to the top of the owls head. Did a post new about it.
These guys are also doodling the white house star where it's actually not.. it's a "broken pentagram" which is worse in witchcraft. That street on the left side doesn't continue. But these guys are doodling it. That's not how it is. lol

What did it say before then, right..
"The chiseled-out fifth line reportedly once incorrectly stated: "BEING THE CENTRE POINT OF THE".[5][6]"
But that sounds like it's not what it said.
Someone has a picture on rolls of film that had to be developed. They just don't know what they have.
Hang on.. reading this here..

This comes in line with the Zero milestone the other day. Apparently this

Jefferson was arguably the head of the colonial intelligence services. This location was a swamp then but even so became a city. Why
