Thomas Nast's cartoons in Harper's Weekly.

The cartoons were made for the elite, by the elite.

He made a mockery of the graft in NY so that people would not take things seriously.

He has a lot "hidden" in his cartoons...I found three Masonic square and compass logos in like just 6 cartoons.

I think, like the Masons that suddenly appeared for interviews after a couple of school shootings, that they flash the logo to let others Masons know the situation is "in control".

It's an interesting thing to revisit, because there's a lot more context to things that don't go along with his cartoons in history books.

Like Boss Tweed being a Mason and Odd Fellow. That is never taught.
